Jailbreak explained

The software jailbreak explained

A jailbreak is an exploit that runs on the PS4 and temporarily removes the barriers stopping unsigned software. It targets specific firmware versions and is generally not permanent — a reboot relocks the console.

Because newer firmware is patched, exploits lag behind the latest release. Combined with the fact that the PS4 cannot be downgraded, your current firmware decides whether modding is possible at all. This guide is high-level, for legal homebrew and emulation.
