Identifying your model

Identifying Your Model

While firmware matters far more than hardware, it still helps to know which PlayStation 4 you own. There are three families: the original, the Slim, and the Pro. Identifying yours is quick.

By appearance

  • Original PS4 — the largest of the three, with an angular, two-tone body and a sloped top surface. Early units have a touch-sensitive power button; later revisions use a physical button.
  • PS4 Slim — smaller and lighter than the original, with rounded edges and a flatter, matte top. It has two physical buttons on the front.
  • PS4 Pro — the bulkiest model, noticeably taller because of its triple-layer stacked design, with an extra indicator strip on the front.

By model number

Every console has a model number beginning with CUH printed on a label, usually on the back or underside:

PrefixModel family
CUH-1xxx / CUH-2xxxOriginal PS4
CUH-2xxx (Slim form)PS4 Slim
CUH-7xxxPS4 Pro

Once you know your model, remember it is mostly informational. The unlock methods and homebrew tools are largely the same across all three, since firmware is what truly gates compatibility. Confirm your firmware version next under Settings > System > System Information.
