Software

• DreamShell is a full operating environment that loads disc images, manages files, and handles VMU saves from an SD card or hard drive.
• KallistiOS is the open-source development kit most native homebrew is built with.
• VMU backup utilities dump and restore memory card contents to storage as archive files.
• Region-free loaders let you run software from other regions on your console.

Hardware

• GDEMU and MODE are optical drive emulators that replace the GD-ROM drive and load images from SD or USB storage.
• VGA box breaks out the console's 480p VGA signal plus audio; powered versions add mode switches for incompatible games.
• SD card adapters connect to the serial port to give DreamShell a storage source.
• Retro upscalers convert VGA or RGB to HDMI with low lag for modern displays.

Workshop basics

For repairs you will want a soldering iron, desoldering tools, isopropyl alcohol, compressed air, quality replacement capacitors, and the correct coin and rechargeable cells for battery work.
