Card not detected

Before opening anything, rule out the simple causes. Forcing a stubborn cartridge or scrubbing contacts aggressively can bend pins in the slot, turning a minor annoyance into a real repair.

Flashcart or Game Not Detected

When the DS shows an empty slot or refuses to read a cartridge, the fault is usually dirty contacts, a card problem, or a worn slot. Work through these phases in order, stopping as soon as the card is recognized.

  1. Reseat. Power off, remove the cartridge, and firmly reinsert it. A surprising number of "dead" cards are simply not seated fully.
  2. Inspect and clean contacts. Look for grime on the cartridge's gold contacts and clean them gently with isopropyl alcohol on a swab. Let them dry before reinserting.
  3. Test another cartridge. Try a known-good game. If it works, the fault is the original card; if it also fails, suspect the console's slot.
  4. Check the microSD. For a flashcart, reseat the microSD card and confirm it is readable on a computer and formatted FAT32.
  5. Examine the slot. With the console off, look inside the Slot-1 connector for bent or dirty pins. Gentle cleaning may help; bent pins need careful repair.

Still Nothing

A genuine game that fails in two consoles points to the cartridge. A flashcart that fails only on one console, while others read fine, points to a worn slot that may need replacing.
