Card not detected
Before opening anything, rule out the simple causes. Forcing a stubborn cartridge or scrubbing contacts aggressively can bend pins in the slot, turning a minor annoyance into a real repair.
Flashcart or Game Not Detected
When the DS shows an empty slot or refuses to read a cartridge, the fault is usually dirty contacts, a card problem, or a worn slot. Work through these phases in order, stopping as soon as the card is recognized.
- Reseat. Power off, remove the cartridge, and firmly reinsert it. A surprising number of "dead" cards are simply not seated fully.
- Inspect and clean contacts. Look for grime on the cartridge's gold contacts and clean them gently with isopropyl alcohol on a swab. Let them dry before reinserting.
- Test another cartridge. Try a known-good game. If it works, the fault is the original card; if it also fails, suspect the console's slot.
- Check the microSD. For a flashcart, reseat the microSD card and confirm it is readable on a computer and formatted FAT32.
- Examine the slot. With the console off, look inside the Slot-1 connector for bent or dirty pins. Gentle cleaning may help; bent pins need careful repair.
Still Nothing
A genuine game that fails in two consoles points to the cartridge. A flashcart that fails only on one console, while others read fine, points to a worn slot that may need replacing.
