What you'll need
The shopping list for a DS mod is short and cheap. Here is everything required, plus a couple of nice-to-haves.
Essentials
- A DS or DS Lite in working order, charged and with a clean slot-1 contact.
- A slot-1 flashcard from a reputable seller, such as an R4i-SDHC, Acekard, or SuperCard DSTwo.
- A microSD card. A name-brand card of 32 GB or smaller offers the best compatibility. Larger cards work on many flashcards but are more prone to fakes.
- A microSD card reader for your computer to copy files across.
- A computer running any modern operating system to format the card and unzip the kernel.
Nice to have
- A capacity-test tool to confirm your microSD is genuine before you rely on it.
- A small case to protect the flashcard, which is thinner than a normal cartridge.
- A spare microSD so you can keep backups of saves and kernel files.
No tools, no soldering
Unlike many console mods, this one needs no screwdrivers, no soldering, and no opening of the console. Everything is done by copying files and inserting a cartridge. no soldering
