Activating Developer Mode

With a Partner Center developer account ready, activation is a short, guided process. The console walks you through most of it. Follow the phases below in order.

Install the Dev Mode Activation app
On your Xbox, open the Store and search for the Dev Mode Activation app. Install it just like any other app. This is the official tool Microsoft provides for enrolling consoles.
Launch and get your codes
Open the app. It displays an activation code and a URL. These link your specific console to your developer account.
Register the console
On a PC or phone, visit the URL shown, sign in with the Microsoft account tied to your Partner Center registration, and enter the activation code to authorize the console.
Activate and reboot
Back on the Xbox, confirm activation. The console downloads the developer environment and reboots into Developer Mode. This can take a little while.
Verify and explore
Once it restarts in Dev Mode, you will see the developer home screen. From here you can enable the Device Portal and begin sideloading apps.

Nothing here is permanent

Activation is fully reversible. You can return to retail mode whenever you like, and your retail games and saves remain untouched throughout.

Keep your console connected to the internet during activation, and use the same Microsoft account you registered with in Partner Center, or authorization will fail.
