Sideloading fails

Sideloading Fails

Sideloading installs your homebrew app package through Device Portal. When an upload errors out or the app refuses to install, work through these causes in order.

  1. Connection. Confirm Device Portal loads in your browser at the console's address and port. If the page itself fails, fix connectivity first.
  2. Package validity. The package must be a correctly signed, Dev Mode compatible build. A corrupted or partial download is a frequent cause of install failures.
  3. Dependencies. Some apps require framework packages installed beforehand. Missing dependencies cause the install to reject the main package.

What to Try

  • Re-download the package and verify its size against the source before uploading again.
  • Install any required dependency packages first, then the app.
  • Remove a failed partial install from the Dev Home app list before retrying.
  • Reboot the console if Device Portal reports the app is busy or locked.

Free Dev Mode accounts limit how many apps can be installed and active at once. If you hit the ceiling, uninstall something before adding more.

Check the Error Text

Device Portal returns a specific failure code or message. Read it rather than guessing. Storage-full, signature, and dependency errors each point to a different fix.
