Identifying your model
Identifying Your Model
Before you begin homebrew setup, confirm exactly which console you own. The Xbox One family spans three generations of hardware, and knowing yours sets expectations for performance and storage.
Where to Look
The quickest method is the model number printed on a label on the underside or rear of the console. Each variant uses a distinct prefix, so the digits tell you immediately what you have.
| Model number | Console |
|---|---|
| 1540 / 1520 | Original Xbox One (2013) |
| 1681 | Xbox One S |
| 1787 | Xbox One X |
Visual Cues
- Original is the largest, with an external power brick and a glossy-and-matte two-tone shell.
- One S is noticeably smaller, all-white by default, with an internal power supply.
- One X is compact and dark, the heaviest of the three, branded as the most powerful.
Confirm in Settings
You can also check under System, then Console info. The serial and model strings appear there without unplugging anything.
Dev Mode, which underpins all Xbox One homebrew, runs on every model listed above and on the newer Series S and Series X. Identifying your unit mainly affects how much headroom you have for emulation and apps.
