The Device Portal

The Device Portal

The Device Portal is how you actually get homebrew onto your console. It is a web-based control panel that your Xbox hosts while in Developer Mode. You open it in a browser on your PC and use it to upload, install, launch, and manage your sideloaded UWP apps.

Turning it on

From the Dev Mode home screen, enable the Device Portal in the developer settings. The console then shows you an IP address and port. Some setups also let you require a username and password for added security.

Connecting to it

  • Make sure your PC and Xbox are on the same network.
  • In your PC browser, enter the address the console displays.
  • Accept the security certificate prompt if your browser shows one — this is normal for a self-hosted portal.

What you can do there

  • Add apps: upload UWP packages to sideload emulators and homebrew.
  • Manage apps: launch, stop, or remove installed apps.
  • Monitor the console: view performance and system information.
  • Transfer files: move data into app folders where supported.

Your main workbench

Almost everything you do with Dev Mode after activation happens through the Device Portal. It is worth getting comfortable with its layout early.

If you set a username and password, keep them safe. The portal controls what runs on your console, so treat its access like any other sensitive login.
