Tools Reference
These are the core tools you will use across Xbox One homebrew. None require modifying the console hardware; everything runs through official Dev Mode.
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Dev Mode Activation app | Switches the console into Dev Mode |
| Device Portal | Browser interface for sideloading and management |
| RetroArch | Multi-system emulator front end |
| Dolphin | GameCube and Wii emulator |
| PPSSPP | PlayStation Portable emulator |
What Each Does
- Dev Mode Activation app is the official tool that requests an activation code and flips the console from retail to developer mode.
- Device Portal is the web-based control panel for uploading app packages, browsing files, and viewing system status from your PC.
- RetroArch bundles many emulator cores under one interface, covering a wide range of retro systems.
- Dolphin handles GameCube and Wii titles and is one of the more demanding cores.
- PPSSPP emulates the PSP and runs well even on lighter consoles.
Use emulators only with content you legally own. These tools do not enable piracy and this wiki does not support it.
Performance Note
Heavier cores like Dolphin benefit most from the One X. Lighter cores run comfortably across the whole family.
