RetroArch (UWP)
RetroArch (UWP)
RetroArch is a single front end that loads emulation cores, each one emulating a particular system. The UWP build sideloads onto Xbox One like any other package and gives you access to a huge range of classic platforms from one interface.
First-run setup
The single most important step is enabling file access. RetroArch requires broad file system access to see your ROM and BIOS folders, so turn that on as soon as it launches. Without it the app simply cannot browse your USB content.
- Install the RetroArch UWP package through the Device Portal.
- Launch it and enable the broad file access option when prompted.
- Download the cores you need from inside the app.
- Point the directories at folders on your USB drive.
Content and cores
Organize a USB drive with clear roms and bios folders before you begin. Some cores need specific BIOS files placed in the system directory to boot games, so check each core's requirements. Once configured, you load a core and then a ROM to play.
| Need | Action |
|---|---|
| See your files | Enable broad file access |
| Run a system | Download its core |
| Boot some games | Supply required BIOS |
Heavier cores can approach the per-app size and performance limits. Stick to systems the console handles comfortably and keep large content on USB.
