Device Portal connection

Device Portal Won't Connect

Device Portal is the browser-based interface you use to sideload and manage homebrew. When it will not load, the problem is in the network path between your PC and the console.

  1. Enable it. Device Portal must be switched on in the Dev Home app, and you should note the address and port it displays.
  2. Same network. Your PC and the console must be on the same local network. Guest networks and client isolation block the connection.
  3. Correct address. Type the full address including the port shown in Dev Home. Omitting the port is a common mistake.

Common Fixes

  • Use the IP address rather than a hostname if name resolution fails.
  • Accept the security warning your browser shows for the self-signed certificate. This is expected for Device Portal.
  • Temporarily disable a VPN on your PC, which can route traffic off the local network.
  • Reboot both the console and your router if the address simply times out.

Authentication, when enabled, requires the username and password set in Dev Home. If you forget it, you can reset the pairing from the console side.

Wired Helps

A wired Ethernet connection on the console removes a whole class of wireless and isolation problems and is worth trying when wireless is flaky.
