Dolphin
Dolphin (GameCube and Wii)
Dolphin is the well known emulator for Nintendo's GameCube and Wii consoles. A UWP build sideloads onto Xbox One in Developer Mode, letting you play disc images of games you own directly from the console.
Getting set up
- Install the Dolphin UWP package through the Device Portal.
- Launch it and grant file access so it can reach your drive.
- Add your disc image folder from the USB drive as a game directory.
- Select a title from the list to start playing.
Content
Dolphin reads GameCube and Wii disc images that you dump from your own discs. These files are large, often several gigabytes, so they must live on a USB drive rather than internal storage. Organize them in a dedicated folder for easy browsing.
| System | Demand |
|---|---|
| GameCube | Generally runs well |
| Wii | Heavier, varies by game |
Performance
The console comfortably handles many GameCube titles, especially on the One X. Wii emulation is more demanding because of higher resolutions and motion input, so frame rates depend on the specific game. Expect to experiment and adjust settings per title.
Wii controls were designed around motion controllers. Mapping them to a standard gamepad works for many games but can feel awkward in titles built around pointing or waggle.
