BIOS Versions
The Saturn's built-in firmware, its BIOS, was revised across the console's production run. For most mods the version is irrelevant, but one compatibility quirk makes it worth checking before you buy.
The 1.00 caveat
The earliest 1.00 BIOS, found in some launch-era Japanese consoles, is not compatible with the Satiator. If you own one of these early units and want the Satiator's drive-preserving design, you'll need a different console or a different method. The Fenrir and Terraonion MODE do not share this restriction in the same way, and the cartridge route sidesteps BIOS concerns entirely.
How to check
- Boot the console without a disc to reach the system menu, where firmware behavior hints at the revision.
- Cross-reference your model number and region; the oldest Japanese units are the ones to watch.
Don't assume your BIOS version from appearance. If you're set on the Satiator, confirm you are not on the 1.00 revision before purchasing, since this incompatibility cannot be patched away.
Record it
Note your BIOS version alongside region and pin count. Together these three facts determine every compatible path through this wiki.
