Choosing an ODE

Choosing an ODE

Three optical drive emulators dominate the Saturn scene, each suited to a different budget and goal. Picking the right one comes down to cost, whether you want to keep the original drive, and your BIOS revision.

Fenrir

The cheapest option and a community favorite. Fenrir fully replaces the drive and loads from an SD card. It ships in two variants matched to your ribbon: a 20-pin kit and a 21-pin kit, so confirm your pin count before ordering.

Satiator

The Satiator keeps your original drive functional, sitting alongside it rather than replacing it. That makes it appealing if your drive still reads discs and you want both options. Note that it is not compatible with the oldest 1.00 BIOS, so verify your firmware first.

Terraonion MODE

The premium board. MODE is a multi-console solution that also supports other systems, with polished features and a higher price tag. Choose it if you value the ecosystem or own several consoles.

Quick guide

Tightest budget: Fenrir. Want to preserve a working drive: Satiator. Premium, multi-console: Terraonion MODE. Whichever you choose, confirm your pin count and region first.
