Region-free mod

Region-Free Mod

This page covers region-free booting via the Pseudo Saturn Kai cartridge, which depends on a working optical drive. If your drive is failing, an ODE is the better route, since the cartridge still relies on the laser to read discs.

The Saturn normally blocks games from other territories. The Pseudo Saturn Kai cartridge bypasses that check, giving you region-free booting plus CD-R support, all with no soldering and no disassembly.

  1. Confirm your drive
Make sure the optical drive still reads discs reliably, since this method works through it.
  2. Get the cartridge
Obtain a Pseudo Saturn Kai boot cartridge for the rear expansion slot.
  3. Insert it
With the console off, seat the cartridge firmly in the cartridge slot. No tools required.
  4. Boot the menu
Power on; the cartridge intercepts startup and presents its boot menu, ready to launch imports or CD-R discs.
  5. Load a game
Insert an import or burned disc and start it through the menu, bypassing the region lock.

Lowest-risk freedom

Because there's no soldering and nothing to open, this is the safest way to play the worldwide library on an otherwise healthy Saturn.
