Power off and unplug before inspecting cables or opening the console. Rule out simple cable and input problems before suspecting the AV hardware.

A black screen on the Saturn is far more often a cable or input mismatch than a dead console. Confirm the easy causes before opening anything.

  1. Check input and power. Confirm the TV is on the right input and the console is actually powering on. Try a different input and a known-good outlet.
  2. Reseat the cable. Make sure the AV cable is fully seated in the multi-AV port. Swap in a known-good cable to rule out a broken one.
  3. Match the cable type. A black screen over RGB SCART frequently means a European SCART versus JP-21 mismatch. Confirm the cable suits your console and display.
  4. Test 240p handling. A scaler or modern TV may reject the Saturn's 240p signal. Use a display or scaler known to accept 240p.
  5. Inspect the hardware. If multiple good cables and displays all show nothing, the AV output stage or power supply may be at fault and needs internal inspection.

Most no-video reports resolve at the cable and input stage. Only after a known-good cable, a confirmed-good display, and a verified power-on should you suspect the console's video output or power circuitry.
