Shell trimming

Trimming removes plastic permanently. Cut a little at a time, keep all debris away from the board, and wear eye protection. Over-cutting weakens the shell and cannot be undone.

Shell Trimming

Some screen kits, especially those for the AGS-001 SP, need more internal space than the original shell provides. Trimming clears room for the new panel, its ribbon, and the driver board so the console can close properly.

Why trimming is needed

The SP's interior is tightly packed, and a modern IPS assembly is slightly larger than the part it replaces. Small ridges and posts inside the shell can press on the new ribbon or stop the halves from seating flush.

  1. Identify the spots
Test-fit the panel and mark exactly where the shell interferes with the kit.
  2. Trim conservatively
Use flush cutters or a hobby knife to remove a little material at a time.
  3. Test-fit often
Reassemble loosely after each pass to check whether more needs to come off.
  4. Clean up
Clear all plastic shavings before reconnecting power, since debris can short the board.

Finishing touches

Smooth any rough edges so they do not catch the ribbon over time. Confirm the shell closes with no gaps and no pressure on the cables.

Less is more

You can always remove a little more plastic, but you can never add it back. Stop as soon as the part fits.
