First boot

Insert and remove carts with the power off. Powering the console while seating a flashcart or cartridge risks corrupting the SD card and bending connector pins.

First boot

The first power-on confirms that your SD card, firmware, and cartridge connector are all working together. Take it step by step so you can pinpoint any issue before settling in to play.

  1. Prepare the card and cart
With everything powered off, seat the formatted SD card in the flashcart, then insert the flashcart into a clean cartridge slot.
  2. Power on
Switch on the console. A steady, non-blinking power light is the first good sign. The EverDrive menu should appear within seconds.
  3. Reach the menu
If the menu loads, the firmware and card are healthy. Browse the file list to confirm your games are present and sorted as expected.
  4. Launch a test game
Pick a known-good title and load it. Smooth, stable gameplay confirms the whole chain works end to end.

If the light blinks or the screen stays blank

This points at the cartridge connector rather than the firmware. Power off, clean the cart's contacts, and if it persists, refurbish or replace the 72-pin connector before troubleshooting further.

Once you reach a stable game from a cold boot, your setup is ready for everyday use.
