Save management

Save management

The EverDrive N8 Pro handles two distinct kinds of saving. Understanding the difference keeps your progress safe and avoids surprises when you switch games or power off.

In-game saves

Many original cartridges saved progress to battery-backed memory. The N8 Pro recreates this by writing that save data to a file on the SD card. For these titles, save inside the game as you normally would, then return to the menu so the data is written out before powering off.

Save states

Save states freeze the exact moment of play and let you resume from that point later. They work even in games that had no built-in save feature, making them handy for long titles or for pausing mid-level.

  • Use save states for convenience, such as stopping quickly between sessions.
  • Use in-game saves for permanence, since they match how the title was designed to store progress.

Protecting your data

  • Always power off from the menu, or after the game confirms a save, so writes finish.
  • Back up the save files from your SD card periodically to a computer.
  • Avoid removing the SD card while the console is on.
Don't pull the card mid-write. Removing the SD card or cutting power during a save can corrupt that file. Wait for the menu or an in-game confirmation before powering down.

With both save types understood, you can mix quick states and proper in-game saves to suit each session.
