Controller repair
Open controllers carefully. Some shells use security screws, and the small parts and springs inside can launch out if you pry the halves apart too fast.
Controller Repair
Wireless Xbox 360 controllers wear out with use. The most common complaints are stick drift, sticky or unresponsive buttons, failing triggers, and worn thumbstick caps.
- Diagnose. Note exactly which input misbehaves. Drift on a stick points at the analog module; a dead button points at the contact pad.
- Open the shell. Remove the battery pack and the screws, including any hidden under the label, then separate the halves.
- Service the part. Clean button contacts with isopropyl alcohol, or replace a worn analog stick module if drift persists after cleaning.
- Reassemble and test. Refit the boards and triggers, close the shell, and verify every input in a controller test screen.
Common fixes
- Stick drift: clean around the stick base first; replace the module if it continues.
- Sticky buttons: usually spilled residue on the rubber contact pad.
- Dead triggers: check the small return spring and the trigger potentiometer.
- Worn thumbstick caps are a quick cosmetic swap.
