No video
If the console powers on but the screen stays black, do not assume the board is dead. Many no-video cases are cable or display-setting problems that are easy to fix.
Troubleshooting: No Video
A black screen with the console clearly powered means the picture is not reaching the display. Narrow it down before suspecting the GPU.
- Check the cable and input. Confirm the AV or HDMI cable is fully seated and the TV is on the correct input. Try a different cable if you have one.
- Match the resolution. An AV cable set to a mode your TV cannot display produces a blank screen. Some cables have a mode switch that must match.
- Test on another display. Trying a second TV quickly tells you whether the fault is the console or the original screen.
- Inspect the console. If the unit shows an error light or a partial RROD code, the problem is hardware and points back to the GPU or its solder.
Quick checks
- Wrong AV mode switch position is a frequent cause.
- A loose or damaged cable connector.
- TV set to the wrong input source.
- If a secondary error code appears, treat it as a hardware fault.
