Identifying your motherboard

Identifying Your Motherboard

Motherboard identification is the foundation of every decision on this wiki. The board determines which methods are possible and what tools you need.

Start with the chassis

  • Phat consoles use the larger original case and cover the Xenon, Zephyr, Falcon, Opus, and Jasper boards.
  • Slim consoles use the smaller redesigned case and contain the Trinity or Corona boards.

Narrow down the revision

Within each chassis, you can distinguish boards by external clues and, more reliably, by internal markings:

  • Manufacture date and power requirements on the rear label give a strong hint.
  • Storage capacity and connector layout differ across generations.
  • Opening the console and reading on-board markings confirms the exact revision.

Pair the board with the dashboard

Knowing the board is only half the picture. You also need the dashboard and CB state, since these decide between JTAG and RGH on otherwise-eligible boards.

Once you are confident of your board, continue to the phat or slim pages for revision-specific notes.
