Accessories
Beyond the console itself, a handful of accessories make modding easier and your finished build more enjoyable. Here are the ones worth knowing about.
Storage and transfer
- microSD cards hold your ROM library for any flashcart. A modest capacity is plenty for the whole Game Boy catalog.
- Card readers let you copy games and back up saves from your computer.
Power and play comfort
- Rechargeable battery packs replace disposable cells and pair well with a backlit screen that draws more current.
- Replacement button pads and silicone membranes restore crisp, responsive controls on a worn unit.
Shells and cosmetics
Replacement shells in clear and colored finishes are widely available for all three models. Swapping the housing while you have the console open is a natural pairing with a screen mod, giving the whole handheld a fresh look.
Match accessories to the model
Shells, button pads, and screen lenses are cut for a specific model. A DMG shell will not fit a Pocket or Color, so check the model code before buying cosmetic parts.
Audio extras
Some builders add a small headphone amplifier or a fresh speaker for cleaner sound. These are optional but pleasant upgrades when the shell is already apart for other work.
