First boot
First Boot
After any mod, the first power-on is your moment of truth. A careful first boot confirms the work succeeded and catches problems before you fully reassemble or start a long play session.
Before you close up
If you have just installed a screen, power on with the shell still open. It is far easier to fix a loose ribbon or reseat a connector now than after the case is screwed shut.
What to check
- Image — the display should be clean, centered, and free of lines, flicker, or dark patches. For IPS kits, brightness should be even.
- Controls — test every button and the D-pad if you reseated the membranes.
- Sound — confirm audio plays from the speaker and headphone jack.
- Flashcart — if using one, verify the menu lists your games and a title boots.
Something wrong?
A blank or distorted screen usually points to a ribbon cable that is creased or not fully seated. Power off, reopen, and reseat connectors before assuming a part is faulty.
Finishing up
Once everything checks out, power off, route the cables so nothing pinches, and close the shell. Drive the screws snug but not overtight. Power on one final time to confirm the assembled console behaves exactly as it did open, and your build is complete.
