Flashcart setup

Flashcart Setup

Always safely eject the SD card from your computer before removing it. Pulling a card mid-write can corrupt your games and saves. Insert and remove the flashcart only when the console is powered off.

Setting up a flashcart is the easiest mod in this wiki. There are no tools and nothing to open; the whole process happens between your computer, the SD card, and the cartridge slot.

  1. Prepare the card
Format a microSD card as FAT32 and copy your legally owned ROM backups into the folder your flashcart expects.
  2. Safely eject
Use your operating system's eject function, then remove the card once it reports as safe to remove.
  3. Insert the card and cart
Slide the microSD into the flashcart, then insert the cart into a powered-off Game Boy.
  4. Power on and scan
Turn on the console. The flashcart menu loads and scans the card, listing your games for selection.
  5. Confirm it works
Pick a game, verify it boots, then return to the menu to confirm the list looks correct.

If the menu is empty

An empty or error menu usually means the card is formatted wrong or the games are in the wrong folder. Re-check the format and folder layout on the SD card preparation page.

Once the menu lists your library and a game boots, your flashcart is ready to use.
