Is My Game Boy Compatible?

Nearly every Game Boy in the DMG family can be modded in some way, but which kits fit depends heavily on your exact model. The table below summarizes what each console supports. Because screen kits and shells are cut for one model only, always match parts to your hardware before buying.

ModelFlashcartIPS screenBacklightBivert
DMG (original)YesYes (shell trim required)YesYes
MGB (Pocket)YesYes (model-specific kit)YesLimited
CGB (Color)YesYes (model-specific kit)Already lit (varies)No
Super Game BoyVia host SNESNo (uses TV)NoNo

All three handhelds accept the same physical game cartridges, so flashcarts like the EverDrive-GB X7 and EZ-Flash Junior work across the family. The big differences appear with screen mods: the DMG needs its plastic trimmed to fit a modern panel, while the Pocket and Color use dedicated kits sized to their smaller shells.

Not sure which you have?

Visit the model identification page. A quick look at the screen border, size, and labeling tells you whether you are holding a DMG, MGB, or CGB.

The bivert mod only makes sense on the non-backlit DMG and is not used on the Color.
