Installing an IPS kit
Installing an IPS Kit
This install opens the console and involves delicate ribbon cables that crack if folded or pulled. On the DMG it also requires permanent shell trimming. Back up any saves, work in a clean static-safe area, and keep your original parts until the mod is confirmed working.
Fitting an IPS panel such as the FunnyPlaying Q5 is the most rewarding screen mod and the most involved. Use the kit made for your specific model, and on a DMG complete shell trimming first.
- Open the shellRemove the case screws with a tri-wing driver and separate the halves with a spudger, noting how the ribbon cables route.
- Remove the old panelCarefully disconnect the original display and set it aside in case you need to revert.
- Trim if neededOn a DMG, complete the shell trim so the larger panel seats flush. Pocket and Color kits skip this step.
- Connect the IPS panelAttach the kit's ribbon cable and driver board, seating connectors fully without forcing them.
- Test before closingPower on and confirm a clean, centered image before reassembling the shell.
Cable care
Most failed installs come from a creased or partially seated ribbon. Keep cables flat and fully inserted.
Once the image looks right, close the shell and proceed to first boot.
