Your shopping list depends on the project, but a few tools and parts come up again and again. Gather everything before you start so you are not stuck halfway.
For flashcart projects
- A flashcart: EverDrive-GB X7 or EZ-Flash Junior.
- A microSD card and a card reader for your computer.
- Your legally owned game backups as ROM files.
That is the whole list. No tools required.
For screen mods
- A tri-wing screwdriver for the case screws, plus a small Phillips for the board.
- A plastic spudger or guitar pick to separate the shell halves.
- The correct model-specific IPS or backlight kit.
- For DMG IPS installs, a hobby knife or rotary tool for shell trimming.
- Isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth for cleaning the panel.
Buy the right kit
Screen kits are cut for a single model. A DMG kit will not fit a Pocket or Color. Confirm your model first, then order to match.
Nice to have
A magnetic parts tray, good lighting, and an anti-static mat all make the work easier and safer. None are strictly required, but they reduce the chance of a lost screw or a static zap.
