Accessories
Beyond flashcarts and memory paks, the N64 has a small ecosystem of accessories worth knowing about. Most are region-free, so imports are fair game.
Controller add-ons
- Controller Pak: a removable memory card that plugs into the controller for storing saves and transferring them between consoles.
- Rumble Pak: provides vibration feedback in supported titles.
- Transfer Pak: bridges Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges to compatible N64 games.
Video and connectivity
- RGB / component mods: aftermarket internal mods that sharpen the picture on modern displays. These are install jobs, not plug-and-play.
- Upscalers and adapters: external boxes that convert the console's analog output for HDMI displays.
- USB cable: used with the EverDrive-64 X7 and SummerCart64 for transferring data directly from a computer.
For importers
- Passthrough adapters: such as the N64 Passport, for playing cross-standard original cartridges.
- Cartridge removal/cleaning kits: handy for maintaining a growing physical collection.
Region reminder
Paks, controllers, and Expansion/Jumper Paks are all region-free. The only accessories tied to region behaviour are passthrough adapters, which exist specifically to cross the NTSC/PAL divide.
