Jumper Pak
Jumper Pak
The Jumper Pak is the unassuming module that ships in every N64 from the factory. It sits in the memory compartment under the lid on top of the console and exists for one reason: to complete the console's memory circuit when no Expansion Pak is installed.
What it does
The Jumper Pak contains no RAM of its own. It simply bridges the connections so the console's built-in 4MB of memory functions correctly. Without either a Jumper Pak or an Expansion Pak seated, the console will not display a picture.
| Module | Adds RAM? | Needed when? |
|---|---|---|
| Jumper Pak | No | Whenever no Expansion Pak is installed |
| Expansion Pak | Yes (+4MB) | For games that require or benefit from 8MB |
Never run the console with the memory slot empty. The compartment must always hold either the Jumper Pak or an Expansion Pak, or you will get a blank screen.
Keep it safe
When you upgrade to an Expansion Pak, store the Jumper Pak somewhere you will remember. If you later sell the console or troubleshoot a memory issue, having the original Jumper Pak on hand is genuinely useful.
Like the Expansion Pak, the Jumper Pak is region-free. memory
