PixelFX / N64Digital

PixelFX / N64Digital

An internal mod that solders a flex interposer onto the console's digital video bus. The work is delicate and a slip can damage the board. Use an experienced installer if you are unsure.

The N64Digital kit from PixelFX is the current go-to HDMI mod for the Nintendo 64. With UltraHDMI long out of production, N64Digital fills the same role: it taps the console's digital video internally and outputs a clean HDMI signal with no analog conversion in the path.

  1. Get the right version. PixelFX has shipped revisions of the kit, and installation details vary by console board revision, so confirm compatibility before ordering.
  2. Mount and solder. Fit the interposer or flex cable to the digital video lines, secure the main board inside the shell, and bring the HDMI port out cleanly.
  3. Update firmware. PixelFX releases firmware updates that add features and fix bugs; flash the latest before final testing.
  4. Tune output. Use the on-screen menu to set scaling, scanlines, and de-blur, then confirm with a test pattern.

Why people choose it

N64Digital is actively supported, regularly updated, and easier to buy new than UltraHDMI. Its image quality, scaling options, and de-blur control are excellent.

For most modders building an N64 today, this is the recommended digital path. recommended
