PAL BIOS connections
If you have a PAL PlayStation, your install usually needs more than a basic NTSC unit does. Beyond the standard modchip connections, PAL consoles typically require additional BIOS-related connections to behave correctly with backups and to avoid the protections specific to those regions.
Why PAL is different
PAL units shipped with region and anti-modification behaviour that NTSC boards handle differently. To work around this cleanly, a modchip on a PAL console generally needs to interact with extra BIOS-side points in addition to the usual signal injection. Skipping these connections on a PAL board is a common reason an otherwise correct install fails.
-
IdentifyConfirm your board is PAL, read its revision, and locate both the standard points and the additional BIOS connections in your chip's diagram.
-
PreparePre-tin pads, cut short wires, and apply flux. The BIOS-area pins are close together, so plan your routing first.
-
SolderMake the standard connections, then the BIOS connections, exactly as your revision-specific diagram shows.
-
ReassembleInspect closely for bridges between the closely spaced points, then loosely close the console.
-
TestPower on and confirm correct behaviour before finishing reassembly.
PAL BIOS Because these pins sit close together, magnification and a fine tip pay off here more than anywhere else.
