First-boot checklist

If your console fails to reach the launcher, do not reinstall blindly. A bad first boot is usually a configuration or media issue, not a damaged console. Power down fully between attempts and change one variable at a time.

Verifying your install

Once you have installed PS2BBL or OpenTuna, a short checklist confirms everything landed correctly before you start loading games. Work through it in order, since each item depends on the one before.

  1. Launcher appears
Power on with no disc. Your homebrew menu should load within a few seconds instead of the stock browser. boot ok
  2. File manager opens
Open wLaunchELF from the menu and confirm it can read your memory card and any attached USB drive.
  3. OPL launches
Start Open PS2 Loader and check that it reaches its main screen and lists your configured device.
  4. A title loads
Point OPL at a backup of one of your own discs and verify it boots into gameplay.

Common first-boot issues

  • Menu never appears. Reseat the memory card and make sure no disc is inserted. On a disc bootstrap, confirm the burn was clean.
  • OPL shows no games. Check that your USB drive is formatted correctly and that game files sit in the folders OPL expects.
  • Game crashes on load. Try a different compatibility mode in the per-title settings, and confirm the backup was made from a disc you own.

When all four checks pass, your install is healthy. From here your card or disc-based launcher loads every boot, and you can focus on organising your library and tuning OPL settings.
