Late slim models
Late slim models (SCPH-79000 – 90000)
Important compatibility note: the latest slim consoles ship with a newer boot ROM (2.30 or 2.50) that the classic FreeMcBoot exploit cannot auto-boot. On these, you bootstrap homebrew with FreeDVDBoot and install a modern environment such as PS2BBL or OpenTuna instead.
The final slims, around SCPH-79000 to SCPH-90000, integrated the power supply into the console (no external brick on the 90000) and are the lightest PS2s made. They remain capable homebrew machines — they simply need the right entry method.
If you have a late slim, check the boot ROM version first (in uLaunchELF, once any homebrew is running, or by date code: 90000-series units made from around late 2008 commonly carry the newer ROM). When in doubt, plan to use the FreeDVDBoot route, which works regardless and only requires burning a single DVD-R.
Like all slims, these have no internal HDD bay, so load games from USB, MX4SIO microSD, or an SMB network share.
