Installing OpenTuna
OpenTuna writes launcher files to your memory card. Back up existing saves before starting, and never remove the card or cut power while the installer is writing. A corrupted card can usually be reformatted, but you will lose its contents.
What OpenTuna is
OpenTuna is an open, community-maintained take on the Tuna exploit chain, packaged as an easy-to-install memory card launcher. Like PS2BBL, it gives you a homebrew menu on every boot, and it is a popular choice when you want a launcher installed directly from uLaunchELF after a FreeDVDBoot bootstrap.
Before you begin
- Reach uLaunchELF first, typically by booting a FreeDVDBoot disc on a ROM 2.30 or 2.50 console.
- Stage the OpenTuna package on a USB drive formatted for the PS2 to read.
-
Plug in the USB driveConnect the drive holding the OpenTuna files to a front USB port and let uLaunchELF detect it.
-
Copy to the cardTransfer the OpenTuna installer and its data to memory card slot one using the file manager's copy function.
-
InstallRun the OpenTuna installer and confirm. It writes the launcher and exploit files to the card.
-
Reboot and confirmPower cycle with no disc inserted. The OpenTuna launcher should appear. launcher installed
With OpenTuna installed, the card alone now boots you into homebrew, so you can retire the FreeDVDBoot disc. From the menu you can reach wLaunchELF for file management and Open PS2 Loader for running backups of your own discs from USB or a network share.
