Installing PS2BBL
Installing a launcher writes files to your memory card. Back up any saves you care about first, since reorganising the card can overwrite or relocate existing data. Do not interrupt power during the copy step.
What PS2BBL is
PS2BBL, the PS2 Basic Boot Loader, is a lightweight, modern replacement for the classic FMCB launcher. It boots quickly, is actively maintained, and is highly configurable through a plain-text settings file. Because it is small and self-contained, it pairs well with a FreeDVDBoot bootstrap when you want a permanent menu without a pre-made card.
Before you begin
- You should already be inside uLaunchELF, either from a FreeDVDBoot disc or another exploit.
- Have the PS2BBL installer files staged on a USB drive or a second memory card.
-

-
Run the installerLaunch the PS2BBL installer ELF from the file manager and confirm the prompt to write the boot loader.
-
Verify the filesCheck that the boot configuration and launcher files now sit on the card, then exit the installer.
-
RebootPower cycle the console without a disc. PS2BBL should load straight into its menu. permanent launcher
Once PS2BBL is in place you no longer need the FreeDVDBoot disc. The launcher reads its configuration each boot, so you can later add entries for wLaunchELF, Open PS2 Loader, and any other homebrew you trust by editing the settings file.
