Network/SMB problems
Network / SMB share problems
You configured Open PS2 Loader to load games from a network (SMB) share, but OPL can't connect, the share is empty, or it times out and falls back. SMB is the fastest loading option on a fat PS2, so it is worth getting right.
Likely causes
- Wrong IP address, share name, username, or password in OPL.
- The host PC or NAS using SMBv2/v3 only; the PS2 needs SMBv1.
- The console not getting an IP when set to static or wrong DHCP settings.
- A firewall blocking the share, or the network adapter not detected.
Fixes
- Enable SMBv1 (SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support) on the host machine.
- In OPL network settings, double-check the IP, share name, and credentials exactly, including case.
- Create a dedicated share with DVD and CD folders inside, and grant the user read access.
- Use DHCP first to confirm connectivity, then switch to static IP if you prefer.
- Allow file sharing through the host firewall, or disable it briefly to test.
| Setting | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Address type | IP address of host |
| Share | Exact folder name shared |
| Protocol | SMBv1 / NetBIOS |
Confirm the official network adapter is firmly seated. If OPL reports no link, the adapter, cable, or expansion bay connection is the first thing to check.
