Loading over network (SMB)
Loading over the network (SMB)
Open PS2 Loader can stream games straight off a shared folder on your home network using SMB, the same file-sharing protocol Windows and most NAS devices speak. The PlayStation 2 connects through its Ethernet port (built into the network adapter on fat models), and OPL reads your ISO and ZSO images live from the share. This means your whole collection can live on a PC or NAS while the console keeps no local storage at all.
What you need
- A PS2 with a working Ethernet connection.
- A computer or NAS hosting an SMB share with DVD and CD folders inside.
- The share's address, plus a username and password if it is not open.
Setup
- Create a shared folder on the host and place your game images in the DVD and CD subfolders.
- In OPL's network settings, enter the console's IP details and the SMB server address and credentials.
- Enable the ETH (network) source and refresh the game list.
No console storage needed
SMB keeps the library on hardware you already own and back up. Adding or removing games is just dropping files into a folder on your PC.
| Connection | Note |
|---|---|
| Wired Ethernet | Recommended for steady streaming |
| Fat PS2 | Network adapter provides the port |
Performance depends on your network. A wired connection and a responsive host are important, since a weak link can cause hitching during play.
