Aladdin XT
The Aladdin XT and Aladdin XT Plus2 are affordable, widely-available modchips for the Original Xbox. They are popular because they are inexpensive, simple to fit, and come preloaded with a working BIOS so a console can be up and running quickly.
XT versus XT Plus2
- Aladdin XT is the basic board, providing a single modified BIOS for straightforward installs.
- Aladdin XT Plus2 adds conveniences such as multiple BIOS slots and easier reflashing, giving you more flexibility down the line.
Installation overview
Both boards attach to the motherboard's LPC header, the same connection used by other modern chips. On most revisions this is a direct solder-on or quick-solder fit. On a 1.6 console the header must be rebuilt first by adding the missing component, after which installation proceeds normally.
Budget-friendly choice
If your goal is a reliable modded console at the lowest cost, the Aladdin line is hard to beat. The Plus2 is worth the small premium if you want to update or swap BIOS images later.
A note on quality
Because these chips are mass-produced by many vendors, build quality varies. Inspect solder joints and seating carefully, and reflash to a trusted BIOS image once installed.
Back up your EEPROM before fitting any chip, and check your console revision so you know whether the LPC header needs rebuilding. High-level fitting steps appear on the modchip installation page.
