EvoX
EvoX (Evolution X)
Evolution X, almost always shortened to EvoX, is one of the oldest and most influential custom dashboards for the Original Xbox. It earned its reputation early in the softmodding scene as a fast, no-nonsense replacement for the retail menu.
Why people still use it
EvoX is lightweight and boots quickly, making it a favorite default dashboard on lower-spec or stock-drive setups. Its menus are simple and responsive rather than flashy, which appeals to users who just want a reliable launcher.
- Built-in FTP server for moving files across your home network
- A simple file manager for copying, deleting, and renaming
- Quick launching of apps and games from the F and G partitions
- Video and audio output configuration
The evox.ini file
Much of EvoX's behavior is driven by a plain-text configuration file named evox.ini. Editing it lets you customize menu entries, set the default video mode, and point the dashboard at where your content lives. You can edit it over FTP from a PC.
EvoX is older than newer projects like XBMC4Gamers and lacks fancy artwork-rich libraries, but its speed and stability keep it relevant. Many enthusiasts run it as a fallback boot menu even when a media-center dashboard is their daily driver.
