ENDGAME softmod
ENDGAME is the modern, recommended way to softmod an Original Xbox using nothing but a game save and a memory transfer. It replaces older save exploits with a single streamlined toolkit, and because it touches only the hard drive it can be fully undone.
How it works at a high level
The process is driven by the Xbox Softmodding Tool, a companion application you run on a PC. It prepares a payload that the console will later read as if it were ordinary save data.
- The tool packages a payload that you transfer onto the console.
- You launch that payload from the stock Microsoft dashboard.
- The payload runs an installer, which writes a dual-boot softmod alongside a custom dashboard.
What you end up with
After installation the console boots into a custom dashboard that exposes file management, applications, and recovery tools. The original Microsoft dashboard remains intact and can still be reached, which is what makes the softmod "dual-boot" and reversible.
Why ENDGAME is preferred
It supports a wide range of console revisions, requires no specific retail game, and bundles recovery options so a mistake is far less likely to brick the machine. For first-time modders it is the safest entry point.
This wiki keeps installation steps procedural and tool-focused. We name the stages and what each accomplishes rather than detailing the underlying exploit, so you understand the workflow without needing low-level knowledge. The following pages walk through preparation, running ENDGAME, and finishing the install.
