TSOP flashing

TSOP flashing is largely irreversible and a failed write can prevent the console from booting at all. It applies only to revisions 1.0 through 1.5. Back up your EEPROM and confirm your revision before doing anything. Proceed only if you are comfortable with light soldering.

These steps describe the TSOP flashing workflow at a high level, naming each stage and its purpose rather than detailing low-level specifics.

  1. Confirm and back up
    Verify your console is a 1.0 to 1.5 revision and save the EEPROM to your PC. This is mandatory before touching the flash chip.
  2. Prepare the bridge points
    Set the motherboard's solder bridges that unlock the TSOP for writing. This light soldering enables the chip to accept a new image.
  3. Boot a flashing environment
    Run a softmod or flashing tool that can write the BIOS, and load a known-good, revision-appropriate BIOS image.
  4. Write and verify
    Flash the image to the TSOP, then let the tool verify the write before you restart. Verification catches errors before they become bricks.

After flashing

Restart the console. If it boots into your new BIOS cleanly, the flash succeeded. If it does not boot, the EEPROM backup and original BIOS knowledge are your recovery path, which is why those backups matter so much.

Measure twice

Double-check the BIOS image and your bridge points before writing. A careful, unhurried approach is the single best protection against a failed flash.
