Revisions 1.0 & 1.1
Revisions 1.0 & 1.1
The 1.0 board is the earliest Original Xbox motherboard, found in launch-era consoles. The 1.1 is a close successor with minor component changes. From a modding standpoint they behave very similarly.
Modding options
Both revisions are fully flexible. They support the ENDGAME softmod recommended, they can be TSOP flashed with a custom BIOS, and they accept modchips such as the OpenXenium or Aladdin XT/XT Plus2. In short, every method in this guide is available to you.
Things to watch for
Early boards are old. The clock capacitor on these revisions is a well-known failure point and frequently leaks, corroding nearby traces. Inspect it carefully; addressing a leaking cap may be the most valuable thing you do for a 1.0 or 1.1 console.
The 1.0 board is also notable for a particular onboard capacitor that some owners choose to address, and for using specific components that differ from later boards. These quirks rarely affect softmodding but are worth knowing if you open the case.
Recommendation
Because all methods work, start with the reversible softmod. If you later want a modchip-free custom BIOS, TSOP flashing remains an option on these revisions, unlike the final 1.6 boards.
Back up first
As always, save your EEPROM before doing anything. The HDD key it holds is irreplaceable.
