Dashboard setup

After the softmod is installed, the console boots into a custom dashboard. This replacement front-end is where you launch applications, manage files, and access recovery tools. A little setup makes it pleasant to use day to day.

What the custom dashboard does

  • Launches homebrew and media applications installed on the hard drive.
  • Manages files with a built-in browser for copying, moving, and deleting.
  • Provides recovery options so you can restore backups if something breaks.

First-time configuration

Spend a few minutes setting up the basics. Set the correct date and time, adjust the video resolution to match your display, and confirm any network settings if you plan to transfer files over a connection.

Organizing your applications

Custom dashboards usually scan known folders for installed programs and list them in a menu. Keep your applications in the expected locations so they appear automatically, and give them clear names. You can often customize the menu layout, skins, and shortcuts to suit how you use the console.

Keep recovery within reach

Leave the EEPROM backup and any restore tools where you can find them on the drive. If the dashboard configuration ever gets corrupted, having these on hand turns a scary moment into a quick fix.

Treat the dashboard as your control center. A tidy, well-labeled setup with backups in place means you spend time enjoying your console rather than troubleshooting it. From here you are ready to add legally-owned content and verify everything works.
