FTP File Transfers
The most convenient way to move files onto a softmodded Original Xbox is over your home network using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Every major custom dashboard (XBMC4Gamers, EvoX, UnleashX) includes a built-in FTP server, so your console can receive files directly from a PC without opening the case.
- Connect the console to your network with an Ethernet cable and ensure it has an IP address.
- Find the Xbox's IP in your dashboard's network or settings menu.
- Open an FTP client on your PC, such as a standard file-transfer program.
- Log in using the IP, the dashboard's FTP username and password, and the default port.
- Drag and drop files into the F or G partition folders.
Default credentials
Many dashboards ship with a well-known default username and password. For security on a shared network, change these in your dashboard's settings once everything is working.
Through FTP you'll see the Xbox's drive laid out as lettered partitions. C holds dashboard system files, E stores saves and some data, and F and G hold your installed games and apps.
Avoid deleting or overwriting files on the C partition unless you know exactly what they do. Removing system files can leave the console unable to boot.
