FTP File Transfers

The most convenient way to move files onto a softmodded Original Xbox is over your home network using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Every major custom dashboard (XBMC4Gamers, EvoX, UnleashX) includes a built-in FTP server, so your console can receive files directly from a PC without opening the case.

  1. Connect the console to your network with an Ethernet cable and ensure it has an IP address.
  2. Find the Xbox's IP in your dashboard's network or settings menu.
  3. Open an FTP client on your PC, such as a standard file-transfer program.
  4. Log in using the IP, the dashboard's FTP username and password, and the default port.
  5. Drag and drop files into the F or G partition folders.

Default credentials

Many dashboards ship with a well-known default username and password. For security on a shared network, change these in your dashboard's settings once everything is working.

Through FTP you'll see the Xbox's drive laid out as lettered partitions. C holds dashboard system files, E stores saves and some data, and F and G hold your installed games and apps.

Avoid deleting or overwriting files on the C partition unless you know exactly what they do. Removing system files can leave the console unable to boot.
