Preparing to softmod

Do not skip the EEPROM backup. This unique file contains the keys that unlock your hard drive. Without it, a future drive failure or mistake can leave your console permanently unbootable. Save copies in more than one place before you change anything.

A little preparation makes the ENDGAME softmod smooth and safe. Gather your gear and confirm your console is ready before you begin.

Identify your console

Note your revision and confirm the stock dashboard boots normally. A healthy starting point avoids surprises mid-install.
Gather the tools

Install the Xbox Softmodding Tool on a PC, and have a method to transfer files to the console such as a compatible memory unit or a network transfer app.
Prepare the transfer media

Format and ready whatever you will use to move the payload onto the console, ensuring it is recognized by the stock dashboard.
Back up the EEPROM

Before installing anything, capture the EEPROM and store it safely. This is your insurance against a locked or failed drive later.

Checklist before you proceed

Console boots to the original dashboard reliably.
Toolkit installed and the payload prepared on your PC.
Transfer path confirmed working in both directions.
EEPROM saved in at least two locations.

With these in place, you are ready to move on to running ENDGAME.
