Warning: This modification involves opening your console and soldering directly to the video circuitry. Mistakes can permanently damage the board. Work only on a console you are prepared to risk, use a temperature controlled iron, and confirm your board revision before touching anything.

1CHIP RGB bypass

The single chip 1CHIP Super Nintendo already outputs excellent RGB, but it routes the signal through circuitry that can soften the picture and introduce faint vertical lines. A bypass mod taps the RGB lines closer to their source, delivering an even sharper and cleaner image to your display or upscaler.

  1. Identify the board. Confirm you have a genuine 1CHIP revision, since the bypass points and component values differ from older boards.
  2. Prepare the console. Open the shell, remove the motherboard, and locate the video encoder and the relevant RGB output pins.
  3. Install the bypass. Fit the appropriate resistors and capacitors so the RGB signals are drawn from the cleaner source and routed to the multi-out.
  4. Reassemble and test. Reconnect everything, power on with a known good RGB cable, and check for sharp, line free output before closing the shell.

Is it worth it?

On a 1CHIP the stock RGB is already very good, so the bypass is a refinement rather than a rescue. Enthusiasts chasing the cleanest possible image will notice the improvement, especially the removal of subtle vertical banding.
