No video
No video
A completely black screen with no picture can be alarming, but it usually points to a cable, power, or connection problem rather than a failed console. Work through the basics methodically.
First checks
- Confirm the console powers on, indicated by its LED, and that the power supply is the correct one.
- Make sure the multi-out cable is fully seated and matches the input you selected on the TV.
- Select the correct input source on the display and try a different input if available.
Narrow it down
- Swap in a known good cable to rule out a broken cord.
- Test on a different television, ideally a CRT, to rule out the display's compatibility.
- Try a different cartridge in case the inserted game is preventing boot.
After a modification
If video vanished right after an RGB or HDMI mod, the cause is almost certainly a wiring error. Recheck every solder joint for bridges and lifted pads, and confirm each color line and ground is connected. Most post mod no video faults are reversible once the bad joint is found. power cable
If the console powers on but produces no picture with multiple known good cables and displays, the fault may lie deeper in the video circuitry, such as a failed component or PPU, which calls for board level diagnosis.
