FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to modify my console to play homebrew?
No. A flash cartridge such as the FXPak Pro runs homebrew, ROM hacks, and most commercial games from an SD card with no soldering or permanent change to the console.
Will every game work on a flashcart?
The vast majority do. A few titles rely on special enhancement chips that are only partially reproduced on the cartridge, so check the compatibility list for those specific games. compatibility
What is the best video upgrade?
It depends on your display. For a CRT, S-Video is a plug and play improvement and RGB is the best analog quality. For a modern TV, an RGB signal into a quality upscaler or an internal HDMI mod gives the cleanest result.
Why does my RGB look dim or noisy?
Older multi chip boards need a bypass amplifier, and the SNES Jr needs an amp added because it lacks RGB circuitry entirely. The single chip 1CHIP boards are cleanest and may need only a cable.
Is recapping necessary?
Not usually. Unlike some consoles, the SNES often runs fine for years without a recap. Replace capacitors only if you see symptoms like buzzing audio or visible leakage. recap
Can I play import games?
Yes. Imports run directly from a flashcart, or you can perform a region mod to use original import cartridges on a single console.
How do I avoid losing saves?
Power the console down cleanly so the final write completes, and back up your SD card's saves folder regularly, especially before firmware updates.
